Short answer is NO. As of now there is zero cost to sign up. Once we have our plane locked down we will split membership into three categories. Social Member which will be free. Licensed Member which will have a monthly or annual cost that will include a to be determined amount of hours plane rental. We are working with the cost to equal one hour per month with a discount for paying for the year in one payment. PPL Training Member which will have a monthly or annual cost that will include a to be determined amount of hours plane rental and instructor. We are working with the cost to equal two hours per month with a discount in paying for the bundle in one payment.

At the moment it is free to sign up for both the flying club and the ground school program. We ask if you are serious for either to please sign up so we can get a realistic number of those that would be interested in renting planes and going trough the PPL training. Once we confirm the date of our first plane arriving we will start the ground school and take the first payment with Credit Card, or Cheque. See cost chat for price.

We are working on establishing relationships with a few flight schools but there will be no commitment to any specific flight school to keep it open for your travel connivence. We will try to engage schools with direct flights from Cayman such as Miami, Tampa, Houston, NYC, and Toronto but you will be free to go to any school anywhere that offers FAA program.

For now the answer is No. You will need to go to the USA to do 3 things. Fly your cross-country, sit your written exam and do your practical. You can save money on your over all cost if you give your self time to clock your last few hours while in the USA as their average entry level rental with instructor is about $150 to $175 USD.

The short of it is between $12,000 USD and $50,000 usd. It depends on many factors. You can go to the USA and do a 4 week intense program: "With this shorter training program, student pilots train up to eight hours a day, five days a week, learning everything they need to know to become a safe and competent pilot." Miami Flying Academy. A normal student with a full time job, school and or a family will take around 8 months to a year if your flying around 2 hours a week. The price will depend on which ground school you choose, what type of plane, where you do your hours and instructor rate. The Cayman Flying Club plan is to offer an Online Ground School program with King Schools for $900 KYD that includes 1 intro class and 8 review classes over 8 months, with a lifetime membership to King Schools online program. Then our goal is to have 1 to 2 planes that members can rent with a private contract instructor for around $250 an hour. With the minimum being 40 hours to get your PPL the average of 60 hours it should cost around $16,000 KYD including ground school, if we get a Cessna 172 and the costs all add up to our budget. We do plan to buy a newer Aircraft such as a Cirrus or a Diamond where it will cost you around 400 an hour KYD but you will be learning in luxury and with the latest safety technology.

The short answer is no. The long answer is we will be providing guidance for members to acquire their PPL (Private Pilot License) starting with ground school through the King Schools program. We will acquire a plane that members will be able to rent and hire a private instructor to work through their hours. We will then advise on a school or facility in the USA where you can go and finish your hours, Cross Country flight, sit your written exam and take your practical exam / check flight.

We are working with small private groups to acquire our first aircraft which will either be a Cessna 172 or a Piper Cherokee. If you want to participate in purchasing a plane our goal is to have 2 aircraft as starter planes and a third plane to start multi engine training. Please email me at D.cameron@plife.ky
